Hero MotoCorp’s electric vehicle arm, Vida, has officially rolled out its latest offering, the Vida VX2 electric scooter, designed with a strong emphasis on affordability and family-centric utility. This new EV is set to shake up the electric two-wheeler market with its competitive pricing and innovative Battery as a Subscription (BaaS) plan, making electric mobility more accessible to a wider audience.

The Vida VX2 comes in two distinct variants: Go and Plus, catering to different needs and budgets.

Unpacking the Vida VX2: Variants, Pricing, and BaaS Advantage

The pricing structure for the Vida VX2 is a game-changer, especially with the introduction of the BaaS (Battery as a Subscription) model:

Variant BaaS Price (Ex-showroom) Without BaaS Price (Ex-showroom)
Go ₹59,490 ₹99,490
Plus ₹64,990 ₹1.10 lakh

The Battery as a Subscription (BaaS) option significantly lowers the upfront cost, allowing riders to effectively lease the battery and pay a usage-based fee, reportedly as low as ₹0.96 per kilometre. This model aims to alleviate the initial financial burden often associated with electric vehicle purchases, making the VX2 a compelling choice for budget-conscious buyers.

Power, Performance, and Practical Range

The Vida VX2 variants are equipped with different battery configurations to suit varying range requirements:

  • Vida VX2 Go: Features a 2.2kWh battery, delivering a claimed 92km IDC (Indian Driving Cycle) range. Its top speed is rated at 70kph.
  • Vida VX2 Plus: Boasts a larger 3.4kWh battery, offering an impressive IDC range of up to 142km. This variant also achieves a higher top speed of 80kph.

Charging the VX2 is convenient with the bundled 580W charger. The Go variant’s battery fully charges in approximately 3 hours and 53 minutes, while the Plus variant takes around 5 hours and 39 minutes. For those on the go, fast charging capabilities allow both variants to reach 0-80% charge in just one hour and a full 0-100% charge in two hours, significantly reducing waiting times.

Design and Practical Features for the Modern Family

The Vida VX2 sports a refreshed design, distinct from its predecessor, the V2, with a clear focus on family usability. Its smooth lines, a near-flat single-piece seat, and a thoughtful pillion backrest emphasize comfort and practicality for everyday commutes. Key lighting elements, including the headlight, tail light, and indicators, are shared with the V2. An optional accessory plastic frunk on the front apron provides additional storage convenience.

Storage space varies between the two variants:

  • Go variant: Benefits from a generous 33.2-litre boot space due to its single battery setup, ample for essentials.
  • Plus variant: Offers a slightly smaller 27.2-litre underseat storage to accommodate its dual battery configuration.

Both models ride on 12-inch wheels at both ends, contributing to a stable and comfortable ride. Teaser images confirmed that the Go variant features a front drum brake, while the Plus variant reportedly comes with a front disc brake for enhanced stopping power.

Tech and Connectivity at Your Fingertips

The Vida VX2 integrates modern technology for an enhanced riding experience:

  • Display: The Go model comes with a 4.3-inch LCD display, while the Plus variant features a more premium 4.3-inch TFT dash, offering a vibrant interface.
  • Connectivity: Both variants include connectivity features, providing access to essential ride data and smart functionalities.
  • Operation: The scooters utilize traditional physical keys for operation, ensuring familiarity and ease of use.
  • Riding Modes: The Go variant offers “Eco” and “Ride” modes for efficient and balanced performance. The Plus variant adds a “Sport” mode, providing an extra boost for more spirited riding.

Colours Available

The Vida VX2 is available in a striking palette of seven colours: blue, black, yellow, red, white, grey, and orange.Notably, the grey and orange hues are exclusive to the Plus variant, adding a touch of distinctiveness to the higher-spec model.

With its strategic pricing, flexible battery options, and practical design, the Vida VX2 is positioned to be a strong contender in the booming Indian electric scooter market, appealing to families seeking an affordable, efficient, and user-friendly electric two-wheeler.
